In a chilling incident eerily similar to what happened in
Badaun, a 7-year-old was allegedly raped and then hanged from a tree in East Midnapore district of West Bengal. Locals of
Kalirhat got hold of three people suspected of committing the heinous crime and
one person was killed in public outrage whereas two other are currently
undergoing treatment in hospital.
The police has registered a case of rape and murder. The
minor's body has been taken for postmortem. According to the girl's relatives,
a family feud was the reason behind the horrific crime.
The girl, who studied in class 1 was untraceable since
Wednesday night. The family finally found the dead body of the girl hanging
from a tree on Thursday morning. Soon locals raided the house of Ratan Sharma
who was having a feud with the girl's family. According to the family, Ratan
and his associates committed the heinous crime to settle scores with them.
In a brutal case of mob justice, locals lynched Ratan and
set his house on fire. Two of his friends were also beaten up on the suspicion
of being involved in the crime. Ratan and his friends were rescued by the local
police. There is still palpable tension in the area and the police is on high
alert.
